OLIVEIRA, Júlio César Silva de et al. Facial fractures at the Presidente Dutra University Hospital, São Luís - MA. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.4, pp. 97-102. ISSN 1808-5210.

Facial fractures are increasingly evident in the largest cities of the world, therefore need to be further studied, since they are influenced by region and development rates. The main objective of this study was to establish the epidemiological profile of these fractures taking into account gender, age, the origin, etiology and location of fractures. A retrospective study was conducted with the records of patients seen and treated in hospital quality of the state, from august 2007 to august 2009. The sample included 127 patients with facial fractures surgically treated under general anesthesia. The results were a male predominance (83%), and the third decade of life (36,22%). There is almost an equivalence between the patients from the countryside (47,24%) to the natural capital (52,75%) of the state served by the hospital with facial trauma. Traffic accidents (46,45%) constitute the main cause, and the mandible (54%) is the most involved site. Thus, it was concluded that subjects were male, between 21 and 30 years of age had a higher incidence of traumatic facial injuries, mainly fractures of the mandible, because of traffic accidents
