Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate periodontal disease and its association with premature birth in pregnant women in antenatal attendance at CISaM/uPE. Methodology: Data were collected on socioeconomic status, pregnancy, presence of systemic and oral changes, use of routine medication or food supplements. Results: The sample was composed of 11 pregnant women, most of them aged 20-29 years. as regards systemic alterations, systemic arterial hypertension presents the most significant values, accounting for 42.85 (N=3), and of these 18.18% (N=2) are regularly taking medication to control the hypertension. as for toothbrushing, 45.4% report brushing their teeth three times a day, while the majority (63.6% N=7) state that they do not use dental floss, which explains why 81% (N=9) have gingivitis. Regarding the week during which the birth occurred, about 27.27% (N=3) of the sample had premature births. The salivary pH values were considered to be low (N=1) and basic (N=1) buffering capacity (N=1). Conclusion: It is concluded that the lack of instruction on oral hygiene and prophylactic practices represent the major treatment need of these patients.
