Myiasis is an infestation of tissues and organs caused by Diptera larvae, in humans or animals, when they deposit their eggs on body tissues. It affects mostly people living in poor socioeconomic conditions in tropical regions, who are immunocompromised and suffering from psychiatric disorders. Due to the great destructive potential of myiasis, its prevention and timely appropriate treatment are of the utmost importance. We present a case of myiasis in a patient involved in a road accident eight days previously, who had multiple fractures and extensive facial injuries not treated because of the difficult location and lack of local hospital facilities. The wounds in the face were infested by Diptera larvae of Cochliomyia hominivorax spp. The fractures were treated surgically and larva-infected tissues infested by surgical debridement and therapy using the antiparasitic drug ivermectin.
