Leishmaniasis represents a serious public health problem in Brazil and abroad, being endemic in 88 countries and the second most important disease caused by protozoan with medical relevance, exceeded only by malaria. When affecting the oral mucosa, the disease becomes destructive or ulcerovegetative and granulomatous, followed by the presence of rough granulations and deep grooves, typically associated with painful symptoms, swallowing difficulty, sialorrhea, fetid odor and bleeding. The diagnosis is a real challenge to the entire professional team, especially if the patient does not reside in endemic areas and also by the vast possibility of differential diagnoses, including the results of laboratory and anatomopathological tests. The aim of this study is to report a rare case of mucocutaneous leishmaniasis, discussing ways of diagnosis and treatment.
