RESENDE, Rodrigo; MEIRELLES, Mauricio  e  VARELLA, Rosângela. Removal of a giant lipoma: Case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2013, vol.13, n.2, pp. 37-42. ISSN 1808-5210.

Lipomas are benign in tumors originated from adipose tissue. It is estimated that they affect the complex maxillofacial in approximately 13% of the cases. They may also present varied sizes and cause great aesthetical discomfort. Clinically, they may be presented as a single or lobulated lesion, with sessile base and asymptomatic. When intra-oral, they are located under the mucosa in 50% of the cases. They are uncommon in children, and quite frequent in patients over 40 years of age. The aim of this study was to report a case of a female patient, leucoderma, 52 years of age, sent to the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery of Adão Pereira Nunes State Hospital, Rio de Janeiro - Brazil, presenting an increase of the submandibular volume on the right side, with approximately 11 years of development and about 8 cm. The patient underwent excisional biopsy of the lesion under general anesthesia, and histopathological diagnosis of the lipoma.
