Purpose: Analyzing aspects related to fatal accidents involving motorcyclists in Recife city and its impact on Maxillo-Facial Complex. Methods: This study was cross-sectional, descriptive, using secondary data of the institutions responsible for reports of fatal victims of traffic accidents - Forensic Medical and Criminology Institutes. The sample was composed of all deaths in 2010. Results: In the studied period, fatalities occurred primarily in men, brown skin and aged between 27-36 years, 53,4% on weekdays. The highest incidence was detected in the second quarter of 2010. Colision occurred in 58% of accidents and most of incidents involved motorcycle and heavy vehicle, on good paved roads. Lighting was insufficient only in 23.9% of cases. The most prevalent injuries were bruises and contused wounds, and incurred more markedly in the lower third of the face. Conclusions: Data on this study brought knowledge about essentials and related factors involving motorcycle accidents, and the occurence of facial traumas was of considerable amount, showing the importance of the presence of a maxilla-facial surgeon to support survival victims of this trauma.
