HAESE, Rayane Del Puppo    CANCADO, Martina Renata Pittella. Urgency and medical emergencies in dentistry: evaluation of training and structure of dentists offices. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. []. 2016, 16, 3, pp. 31-39. ISSN 1808-5210.

Urgency and medical emergency (UMEs), even though rare, can occur in professional practice of any dentist (CD). Due to the gradual increase in the number of individuals affected systemically, the chances of occurrence of emergency situations during dental practice grow substantially. The professional should be prepared for all episodes that may arise during its clinical performance. The aim of the study was to evaluate the scientific knowledge in the intervention of the UMEs and the structure of graduate students to meet the same offices. The sample consisted of 95 professionals; Data were collected through a questionnaire containing 21 questions. Most respondents did not have training in basic life support (56.8%); 52.6% were not deemed qualified to diagnose an UME taking place in his office and large percentage (72.6%) did not feel able to intervene; 61% of respondents said they had experienced some form of UME during their professional practice, of these, 86.2% have felt prepared to intervene when it occurred and 84.2% said they did not have equipment and drugs for emergencies in clinics. Therefore, professionals are not adequately trained and equipped to work in the event of an UME in his office.
