PACHECO, Cristianne Ribeiro et al. Dental implants in humans using recombinant bone morphogenetic protein -2. RGO, Rev. gaúch. odontol. (Online) [online]. 2010, vol.58, n.3, pp. 333-337. ISSN 1981-8637.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate clinically and radiographically the conditions of bone density around the experimental bioactive implants that are covered with Bone Morphogenetic Protein recombinant human type-2 (rhBMP-2) (IE) and to compare it to that obtained whit rough- surface implants (IC). METHODS: Twelve patients with indication for treatment of dental implants were included in this study, in which each received 2 implants: IE (rhBMP-2) and IC (rough-surface implants). The surgical procedure was done in according to the Brånemark protocol. Digital subtraction technique was used to assess the dental implants in four moments: initial, after-surgical, 3 months and eight months. RESULTS: There was significantly different among the treatments of dental implants (p<0.05). The increase of bony density was better to IE (39.77) than IC (8.21). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that rhBMP-2-coated implants can stimulated bone formation around dental implants and may be an alternative in treatment for low bone density sites.
