SOARES, Eduardo Costa Studart et al. Upper lip basal cell adenoma. RGO, Rev. gaúch. odontol. (Online) [online]. 2010, vol.58, n.4, pp. 533-536. ISSN 1981-8637.

Tumors of the minor salivary glands are relatively uncommon lesions of the oral cavity representing approximately 3% of all head and neck tumors. Basal cell adenoma is a rare benign neoplasm of the salivary glands. Its name derives from the basal-like appearance of the tumor cells. It usually occurs in the parotid gland and upper lip and predominantly in females. The tumor can occur at any age but is more common in older adults, with the prevalence peaking in the seventh decade of life. Microscopically, it is composed of isomorphic cells similar to basal cells and its cytoplasm is eosinophilic. Its treatment consists of surgical excision of the lesion. The recurrence rates are relatively low. This study reports the case of a 69-year-old female patient with a basal cell adenoma in the upper lip.
