Objective This study assessed the effectiveness of microwave energy treatment on the flexural resistance and microhardness of the chemically-activated acrylic resin Dencrilay Speed®. Methods Twenty-four specimens were prepared and divided into 4 groups according to microwave-energy treatment cycle. G1 (control) did not receive any treatment. The specimens in groups G2, G3 and G4 were immersed in 200mL of distilled water and then microwaved in a 650W oven for 5, 3 and 1 minutes, respectively. Each group (n=6) was submitted to a three-point flexural strength test and to a Vickers hardness test after a 48-hour storage. Results The mean values (MPa) and standard deviations for the flexural strength test were: G1 86.04 ± 10.32 a; G2 100.1 ± 5.52 ab; G3 102, 04 ± 5.41 b; G4 104.81 ± 14.17b. The mean values found for the hardness test (VHN) were: G1-21.98 ± 0.82 a; G2-20.15 ± 1.24 b; G3- 19,69 ± 0.91 b; G4-19.44 ± 0.41 b. Conclusion Microwave treatment increased the flexural strength and reduced the microhardness of chemically-activated acrylic resins
