Determination of resistance to autoclaving, corrosion and thermal exposure of surgical instruments: a case study. Innov. Implant. J., Biomater. Esthet. (Online) []. 2010, 5, 2, pp. 40-44. Stainless steel is one of the main materials used in the manufacture of dental burs due to the combination of mechanical properties and high resistance to corrosion. Despite presenting a corrosion resistance superior to most metals, in very aggressive to stainless steels may suffer some form of corrosion that may impair in any way their durability or appearance. This paper presents features and results of tests on dental burs in order to evaluate the corrosion resistance of stainless steel M340. The objective of this study is to determine the resistance to autoclaving, corrosion and thermal exposure of the surgical instruments (dental burs) made of stainless steel.
