YOKOYAMA, Ricardo Takume; SOUSA, Maria da Luz Rosário de; AMARAL, Regiane Cristina do  e  WADA, Ronaldo Seichi. The oral health coordinator knowledge about the Law number 6,050 which regulates the water fluoridation in the public supply system. Odontol. Clín.-Cient. (Online) [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.1, pp.37-41. ISSN 1677-3888.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluated the oral health coordinator (OHC) knowledge about the law number 6,050. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The knowledge was verified through a questionnaire; sample size was 23. Fischer test was used, with p=0.05 and the proportion test between correct answers/wrong answers for two groups. RESULTS: Although 87% answered that there a law about fluoridation of public water supplies and 69.9% answered it must be compulsory, only 34.8% reported having read the legislation. Only 21.7% reported that fluoride ion in the water must be supervised by sanitary supervision and only 43.5% reported the correct optimum level of fluoride ion in water supplies. No association was observed between the health coordinators reporting have read the legislation and correctly answering the questions about who must supervise the ion fluoride level in the water supplies (p=0.30), about the optimum level of fluoride ion (p=0.69) and about the interference factor in this concentration. CONCLUSION: This study results indicate an unsatisfactory knowledge of the OHC regarding the law number 6,050. It is important that OHC know the legislation perfectly. Otherwise they may be unable to demand the correct employment of the public health preventive measures and standards established by the law.
