OLIVEIRA, Rodrigo Simões de; TORRES, Luciana Marcondes Sarmento; GOMES, Isabela Silva  e  NICOLO, Rebeca Di. Evaluation of anxiety levels in children during odontological treatment. IJD, Int. j. dent. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.4, pp.193-197. ISSN 1806-146X.

The anxiety in relation to dental treatment, most times initiates during the childhood, and, when it's not overcome, can extend to adulthood, what may lead to an unsatisfactory oral health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anxiety level in children of 4 to 11 years old, attended at São José dos Campos University - UNESP, as well as their responsible. The anxiety level was measured through translated and modified questionnaires such as Corah Dental Anxiety Scale (DAS) and Facial Image Scale (FIS). The DAS was applied to the responsible and the FIS to the children, before and after the treatment and at different times. The tests results of children's and adult's anxiety were correlated revealing that: children involved in this study did not present themselves anxious during dental treatment; the majority of responsible did not present themselves anxious; the responsible that were anxious did not transmit anxiety to the children. It was concluded that the treatment conduct towards these children must be kept because it seems appropriate to control the patient's levels of anxiety.
