Abstract

Fratura tardia de mandíbula decorrente de exodontia de terceiro molar: relato de casoLate mandibular fracture after third molar extraction: case report. Rev. Assoc. Paul. Cir. Dent. [online]. 2012, vol.66, n.4, pp. 268-271. ISSN 0004-5276.

Late mandibular angle fracture associated with third molar extraction is a rare complication and normally occurs two or three weeks after surgery during mastication. There are several factors that influences the risk of fracture, age, gender, impaction degree, dental volume and its angulation, presence of tumors, cysts or bone lesions and systemic disease. The surgical approach is the best although in some cases conservative treatment can be useful. The aim of this paper is to report a clinical case of late mandibular fracture associated with inferior third molar extraction, its risk factors and treatment.

Keywords : postoperative complications; molar, third; mandibular fractures; tooth extraction.
