Abstract

RIBEIRO JUNIOR, Paulo Domingos; MEDINA JUNIOR, Antonio Carlos; ALBUQUERQUE, Gustavo Cavalcanti de  and  CARDOSO, Ludmila Madeira. Performance of the general dentist in teeth displacement towards the maxillary sinus. Rev. Assoc. Paul. Cir. Dent. [online]. 2014, vol.68, n.4, pp. 320-325. ISSN 0004-5276.

The displacement of roots and/or teeth towards the maxillary sinus is an accident that can be generated from the extraction of erupted elements, semi-erupted teeth or even retained teeth. Thus, it can happen with specialists as well as with general dentists. The latter ones, most of the times, are not trained for the treatment of this complication, what requires from them the forward of the patient for specialized treatment. However, general dentists (i.e., dental surgeons - DS) have a key role improving the prognosis of treatment of this accident. The objective of this work is to discuss, through clinical cases and literature, the ways of treating this trans-surgery accident, which can be generated during dental extractions in the maxillary arch.

Keywords : maxillary sinus; surgery; oral; accidents.
