Abstract

BISPO, Luciano Bonatelli. Ceramic in dentistry: advantages and limitations of zirconia. Rev. Bras. Odontol. [online]. 2015, vol.72, n.1-2, pp. 24-29. ISSN 1984-3747.

The evolution of indirect restoring materials and the increase in aesthetic demand has provided surprising alternatives in Dentistry. The use of feldspathic porcelains, vitroceramics, ceramic composites and finally polycriystallines has improved resistance in ceramic restorations that has revolutionized its indication by challenging unalterable concepts. Among ceramic materials zirconia has been used when aesthetics and resistance mechanics are wanted in prosthetic rehabilitation. However, dispite its excellent chemical and mechanical properties, some questions regarding zirconia are still being made in literature . The aim of this study was to do a literature review in order to elucidate clinical and researchers on the advantages and disadvantages of zirconia as alternative material in prosthetic rehabilitation.
