Abstract
CARVALHO, Andressa Adelina Barros; CORREA, Lucas Augusto Alves Ferreira; FREITAS, Fabiana Furtado and DIAS, Pâmella Coelho. The importance of cone-beam computed tomography for assessment of impacted maxillary canines. Rev. Bras. Odontol. [online]. 2017, vol.74, n.2, pp. 143-149. ISSN 1984-3747.
Objective: to perform a literature review about the importance of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) in the diagnosis of impacted canines in the maxillary region. Material and Methods: articles were searched between 2001 and 2016, and 36 articles were selected for the literature review. Results: CBCT, when compared to radiographic exams, presents a higher level of reliability for treatment plan elaboration; it is more accurate to identify the real location and inclination of impacted canines and the presence of resorptions in the adjacent teeth. Conclusion: CBCT can accurately demonstrate the location of impacted canines, affected adjacent structures and incidental findings, with an emphasis on the degree of central and lateral incisor resorption. For these purposes, CBCT is a superior technique to radiographic exams.
