Abstract

VAZ, Daniela de Almeida et al. Agreement between clinical and histopathological diagnoses of the Laboratory of Oral Pathology, Faculty of Dentistry of Pernambuco. RPG, Rev. pós-grad. [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.4, pp. 236-243. ISSN 0104-5695.

The completion of the appropriate patient's personal data, as well as the likely hypothesis of the clinical diagnosis at the time of sending the material to the laboratory, favors the closing of the histopathological diagnosis and therapy to be adopted by a dentist, for treatment of injury. However, it is observable that it is not a routine adopted by the professional, making it more difficult to establish the correct diagnosis. The aim of this study was to analyze through a retrospective study, the level of agreement between clinical diagnosis and histopathological findings, obtained through 3549 reports filled in Oral Pathology Laboratory of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Pernambuco (FOP-UPE), between 1999 and 2009. As a result it was observed that the female gender and age between 10 and 39 years were most affected and that the inflammatory fibrous hyperplasia was the most frequent histopathological diagnosis. The clinical and histopathological diagnoses were concordant in 46% of cases.
