Abstract

Patients with Special Needs presents great vulnerability to distubances in the shape, function and esthetics of their stomatognathic system, and possible socio-economic problems that limits their access to private and public dentistry services. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article was to identify the clinic profile of 89 patients with Special Needs assisted between 2005 and 2010 in the Oral and Maxillofacial Department of São Vicente de Paulo Hospital de Passo Fundo and to describe the management technique to assist this patients. METHODS: Was realized a descriptive study of a convenience sample, with data collected from the patients dentistry clinical files, systematized in a specific form and presented in a table. RESULTS: The most significative results show that the patients belong to families with low income, live far from dentistry assistance centers, present neuropsychomotor sequelae that compromise oral health. Assistance in Hospital level required a trained dentistry team, as soon as, general anesthesic technique. CONCLUSION: It´s necessary the implementation of oral health public policies that behold promotion, prevention and specialized assistance for these patients.
