Abstract

SPADACIO, Célio et al. Behavior analysis of esthetic restorations under the action of heat and its importance in the process of human identification. RFO UPF [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.3, pp. 267-272. ISSN 1413-4012.

Objective: To investigate macroscopically the changes suffered by esthetic restorative materials when submitted to high temperature and to highlight the importance of these changes in processes of human identification. Methodology: The study included 96 human teeth, who were submitted to treatment with restorative composite resins, glass ionomer cement and porcelain and to high temperatures ranging from 100 to 1200 °C with intervals of 100 C to evaluate the changes of these materials. Results: All the restorative materials evaluated suffered structural and color changes in certain temperature levels. Conclusion: The exposure of esthetic restorative materials in high temperatures caused changes in all materials. This fact could be used for comparison with dental records of possible victims of disasters in the human identification process, where the bodies have suffered the action of fire.
