ACASIGUA, Gerson Arisoly; MARQUES, Fernanda Pasquetti  and  FOSSATI, Anna Christina Medeiros. Satisfação e perfil de usuários do serviço odontológico no Sistema Único de SaúdeCarbamide peroxide influence on marginal gingiva - a study in mice. RFO UPF [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.3, pp. 340-344. Objective: This study aims to assess the marginal gingiva of mice subjected to contact with carbamide peroxide, simulating at-home bleaching techniques. Materials and method: 20 mice were divided into four groups: three groups with different times of application of 16% carbamide peroxide bleaching agent, and a control group. The animals were sacrificed according to the times established, and mandible removal at the corresponding height of the central incisor involving the gingival mucosa of the area was fixed and processed for the production of histological sections and histomorphometric analysis of the area. Results: The analysis of results showed higher epithelial cone formations, hyperplasia, and inflammation in groups where the whitening gel was applied for 10 and 15 days than the control group. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it may be concluded that bleaching agents can directly change tissue morphology, and exposing oral mucosa to these products can predispose the tissues to significant adverse risks.
