RIBEIRO, Betania Fachetti et al. Oral Lichen Planus: etiopathogenesis and biomarkers. Odontol. Clín.-Cient. (Online) [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.1, pp. 19-23. ISSN 1677-3888.

The Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory mucocutaneous disease that clinically presents itself in many ways as reticular, atrophic or erythematous and erosive. Its etiology is unknown, although it is considered as an autoimmune disease. Cytokines produced and released by inflammatory cells present in the OLP are important for the recruitment of lymphocytes to the lesion site and are able to stimulate and inhibit production of new cytokines are essential for the perpetuation and exacerbation of OLP. The objective of this study is to review the literature on biological markers and the pathogenesis of OLP.
