Abstract

Biomechanical factors are related to the loss of dental implants, and a rigorous analysis in selecting the best material for occlusal stress distribution is required. In addition, it was suggested that occlusion material can also influence the distribution of stresses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different occlusal materials on the crown-implant system, especially the screw crown. Thus, four dimensional models were created with a hexagonal implant (Master Screw connection, Implant Systems, São Paulo, Brazil) of 3.75 mm x 10 mm with the following crowns: NiCr, metal-ceramic (porcelain) resin and composite acrylic resin. The results were visualized through von Mises stress maps of each model. The different models analyzed showed a pattern of similar tensions distribution. Thus, it was concluded that the different occlusal materials were similar among themselves regarding the crown and screw. The oblique loading was more detrimental when compared to axial loading.
