Abstract

BEZERRA, Fábio; RIBEIRO, Érica Del Peloso; BITTENCOURT, Sandro  and  LENHARO, Ariel. Influence of operador experience on primary stability of implants with different geometry: in vitro study. IJD, Int. j. dent. [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.2, pp. 63-67. ISSN 1806-146X.

The primary stability of implants is associated with factors such as drilling, implant geometry, bone density and operator skills. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of operator experience on drilling time and primary stability of implants with different geometry. It was used two types of implants, one cylindrical and with an unique thread (control group - Try-On implants, Sistema de Implante Nacional, Saulo , Brasil) and another tapered with three types of threads (test group - Unitite, Sistema de Implante Nacional, Saulo, Brasil). Implants were placed by 30 professionals, 10 in each category: no experience (had never placed an implant), low experience (had installed between 1 and 50 implants) and expert (had installed mo re than 50 implants). Each operator installed two implants (one test and one control) in a resin model. The parameters analyzed were: drilling time, insertion time, inserting torque, unscrewing torque and resonance frequency. As results it was detected that drilling and insertion time were lower in the test group and insertion and unscrewing torque were higher in this group (p<0,05). Regarding the influence of operator skill, was observed values statistically superior of drilling and insertion time and resonance frequency for the no experience category. Thus, it can be concluded that geometry of implants in the test group improved implant primary stability and reduced the drilling time. This time was also reduced with the increase in professional experience.
