Abstract

ZINI, Michel et al. Palatal mucoepidermoidal carcinoma: a case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.1, pp. 57-62. ISSN 1808-5210.

Mucoepidermoidal carcinoma is a malignant tumor of the salivary gland frequently found in the oral cavity. It presents a diverse biological behavior, which is related to its histological classification. Microscopically, mucoepidermoidal tumors are classified as low-grade, intermediate grade and high-grade lesions according to the percentage of mucus-forming cells, intermediate cells and cells with squamous differentiation. The aim of this study was to describe a case of mucoepidermoidal carcinoma in the palate, treated at the University Center of Maringá, as part of the Oral Lesions Project. The patient's prognosis is determined by the early diagnosis and correct management of this tumor. This is an aggressive lesion and should be considered and as a hypothesis in the diagnosis even though its clinical appearance suggests a benign lesion.
