Abstract

CARVALHO, Matheus Furtado de et al. Principles of manegement of hospitalized patients in oral and maxilo facial surgery. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.4, pp. 79-84. ISSN 1808-5210.

Facial fractures are frequently associated with injuries to other body regions. Correct management of the hospitalized patient with multiple traumas involves a series of multidisciplinary steps that can directly influence the survival of the victim. The manegement follows a sequence that starts with the initial evaluation, secondary evaluation, progress notes, discharge and finally, the outpatient treatment and monitoring of the patient. It is therefore extremely important that the oral and maxillofacial surgeon has a broad understanding of the functional and organizational structures of the hospital where he/she works. This will reduce treatment time, contributing reduced hospital costs in the treatment of polytrauma patients. The aim of this work is to elucidate the steps involved in the treatment of hospitalized patients in the departments of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery during multiple trauma care, highlighting its importance in successful treatment and prognosis.
