Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Denise Hélen Imaculada Pereira de et al. Residual Cyst with Large Dimension: Case Report a nd Literature Review. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.2, pp. 21-26. ISSN 1808-5210.

The residual radicular cyst is a lesion resultant from stimulus to proliferation of epithelial rests of Malassez, because of an inflammatory process of pulpar necrosis, where the tooth has been removed. This cyst tends to regress, when there isn't a font of stimulus. However, in some cases, the cyst presents great dimensions, needing a surgical intervention. The present work has as objective to relate the case of a patient holder of a residual radicular cyst with large dimension in ment and body regions of mandibula, as well as to make a brief review of the literature about this condition. Although this pathology has a high prevalence, it's rarely related because its detection occurs, frequently with routine radiographs and has spontaneous regress in many cases. Then, it's extremely important that the dentists make an early diagnosis of residual cyst, possibiliting an appropriate treatment and avoiding the stay of this lesion, reaching large dimensions.
