Abstract

DI ALENCAR, Thiago Ayala Melo; MATIAS, Karinna F. S.  and  ANDRADE, Leonardo Araújo de. Facial fracture in a professional cyclist: a case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2011, vol.11, n.3, pp. 29-32. ISSN 1808-5210.

Cycling is a speed sport commonly associated with acute trauma such as fractures. Because traditional models of helmets usually do not offer protection against maxillofacial trauma, the cyclist is liable to suffer facial fractures, especially in the midface and lower face. The aim of this paper is to present a case of isolated fracture of the zygomatic-orbital complex in a professional cyclist, treated with open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws through the infrapalpebral and superciliary access, who returned to his sport in the fifth postoperative week

Keywords : Cycling; Facial fractures; Zygomatic.
