Abstract

PINTO, Leonardo Augustus Peral Ferreira; GUIMARAES, Marco Aurélio de Almeida  and  COUTINHO, Michelle Alonso. Eminectomy: a treatment option for recurrent temporomandibular joint. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.1, pp. 53-60. ISSN 1808-5210.

Dislocation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) occurs when the mandibular condyle disclocates out of the glenoid cavity, remaining in a lockout condition anterior to the articular eminence. This condition is classified as normal, recurrent or relapsing, depending on the frequency of occurrence and the progressive worsening of the clinical picture. Multiple therapeutic approaches, ranging from conservative methods to complex surgical interventions have been proposed in order to resolve this condition. This paper aims to promote a discussion on eminectomy and presents the result of a clinical case surgically treated by this technique.
