Abstract

GIUSTINA, Jean Carlos Della et al. Complex odontoma associated with dentigerous cyst: a report of two cases. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2012, vol.12, n.3, pp. 61-66. ISSN 1808-5210.

Complex odontoma is a mixed benign odontogenic tumor, consisting of a disorganized mass of hard dental tissue. The developmental dentigerous cyst is a lesion lined by a capsule of odontogenic epithelial tissue, characterized by its involvement with an unerupted tooth and the accumulation of fluid within it. The association between lesions of odontogenic origin can be explained by the differentiation potential of epithelial tissue during odontogenesis. The diagnosis is established by clinical and radiographic analysis in association with the anatomopathological examination. The aim of this paper is to present two case reports of complex odontoma associated with a dentigerous cyst treated with the surgical excision of the odontoma and enucleation of the dentigerous cyst. Topics related to the diagnosis, treatment and origin of such lesions are discussed.
