MORAIS, Hécio Henrique Araújo de et al. Parotid sialocele: postoperative complication of a retromandibular approach. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.1, pp. 49-54. ISSN 1808-5210.
The sialocele parotid is the extravation of saliva into the tissiues sorrounding the parotid gland. It may be idiopathic, trauma or postoperative complication of retromandibular approach to the condyle and mandibular ramus. The treatment of mandibular condyle fractures is controversial among surgeons, surgical management has brought excellent results with minimal complications. In cases of fracture with medial displacement is an absolute indication for surgical reduction. For this there are options: intraoral access, pre-auricular or retromandibular. The latter has the advantage of providing direct vision but has a risk of injury to the facial nerve, forming sialocele and salivary fistulas. This paper aims to report a clinical case of parotid sialocele as postoperative complication access retromandibular to condylar fracture reduction.
