DANTAS, Renata Moura Xavier; MELO, Maysa Nogueira de Barros; PIMENTEL, Ana Carolina Lemos  and  AGUIAR, Jeferson Freitas. Reconstruction with polymethylmetacrylate implant: case report. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2014, vol.14, n.2, pp. 19-24. ISSN 1808-5210.

The maxillofacial complex protects the neurocranium and becomes the target of subsequent trauma involving the region. Facial fractures can cause sequelae, asymmetry and aesthetic faults, and the use of autogenous grafts sometimes is not possible. Among the alloplastic grafts, polymethylmethacrylate is an acrylic based resin considered a good option for reconstruction of facial bone defects by having low cost, being inert and tolerable, and decreasing surgical time and be easily manipulated or molded. This article aims to discuss the use, advantages and disadvantages of the use of polymethylmethacrylate in posttraumatic facial treatment using a clinical case report.
