This research was to evaluate the clinical performance of patients who underwentreconstruction of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) through prosthetic devices. Theevaluations were performed by measuring the mandibular function and quality of lifequestionnaire - OHIP-14. This is a retrospective case series of cases, with patient sundergoing restorative surgery of the TMJ in the period 2007-2011, the RestorationHospital, Recife-PE, Brazil. The quantitative results showed that this type ofrehabilitation was able to mimic the functionality articulate, with values of maximummouth opening, lateral and protrusive satisfactory. The exception occurred in only 01 patients who presented important limitation of painful symptoms during jaw movement,possibly by being the bearer of progressive autoimmune disease. Subjective evaluationof pain during chewing movements was performed by analog scale of pain, function oftime, and the patient referred to less pain over time reconstructions and youngerpatients also reported less pain episode, possibly your best ability biological adaptive.The OHIP-14 questionnaire quantified using 07 variables, where the psychologicaldiscomfort had the highest score, followed by physical and psychological ability. Theother variables had lower scores who did not bring significant changes in the pattern ofclinical patients. Thus, we conclude that the internal TMJ prostheses used in this studywere satisfactory, promoting mandibular movements mostly in normal ranges, withsignificant pain reduction.
