REAL, Flávio Henrique; SOUSA, Gustavo Fraga de; SOUZA JUNIOR, José Romero Souto de  and  SILVA NETO, Joaquim Celestino da. Analysis of the upper airway after orthognathic surgery. Rev. cir. traumatol. buco-maxilo-fac. [online]. 2016, vol.16, n.2, pp. 06-12. ISSN 1808-5210.

Introduction:Orthognathic surgery promotes the correction of dentofacial deformities of congenital and acquired etiology, which provides both aesthetic and functional changes which affect the size of the airway. This is a descriptive, retrospective study of patients with dentofacial deformity underwent orthognathic surgery between February 2011 and July 2013. Methodology: The method describes the linear changes of the airways by comparing scanned by Dolphin Imaging ® software, obtained from lateral cephalometric radiographs at two different times. Surgical procedures in question were: Le Fort I osteotomy, bilateral sagittal osteotomy of the mandible and Genioplasty, when indicated, according to the treatment protocol of dentofacial deformities Hospital Getúlio Vargas. Results: The mean linear measurements had increased in all variables compared to the average of the measures referenced by Dolphin Imaging program Arnett - Gunson FAB mode. Conclusions:Orthognathic surgery brings impact to the upper airways, which can be increased or a decreased airspace.
