INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the degree of importance regarding biosafety in the point of view of undergraduate dental students from the University of the Region of Joinville - Univille. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The sample was composed of 142 undergraduate dental students from first to fifth year, who were asked to sign the term of free and clarified assent in order to answer a questionnaire with 13 closed-ended and 2 open-ended questions regarding dental clinical practice and concepts of biosafety. RESULTS: 71.83% of the 142 students surveyed were female while 28.17% were male, what shows the increase of female students in the health area. Most students showed to have basic knowledge of biosafety standards (82.39%) and the use of personal protection equipments - PPEs (75.35%). CONCLUSION: Considering the limitations of this study, it was possible to note that undergraduate dental students from Univille showed to be aware of the importance of biosafety standards in their daily clinical practices.
