Abstract

CIUCCIO, Ricardo Luiz; LUIZ, Nelis Evangelista; JACOMINI FILHO, Athos  and  ALVARADO, Paulo Paschoal. Testing of galvanic corrosion of titanium plates and screws used in rigid internal fixation. Innov. Implant. J., Biomater. Esthet. (Online) [online]. 2010, vol.5, n.3, pp. 19-22. ISSN 1984-5960.

Commercially pure titanium is the material most widely used for the manufacture of implants for reconstruction, because it is a material highly biocompatible with living tissues of mammals. The main objective of this work is galvanic corrosion test according to ASTM G71 (98), two substances in electrical contact in a solution of 0.9% sodium chloride (NaCl) at 37 ºC. This paper presents features and results of tests carried out on plates and screws used in rigid internal fixation in order to evaluate the corrosion resistance of titanium ASTM F67 and ASTM F136.
