Scientific reports and dental practice

Dentistry has been undergoing considerable advancements in the last decades. Innovations are happening in virtually all specialties, so that new materials and techniques are constantly introduced. Furthermore, dental practice emerged from a purely therapeutic phase and has started to cover preventive procedures, since more and more integrated multidisciplinary knowledge has been required, involving the treatment of patient’s functional, biological, and aesthetic needs.

Consequently, the dentist should seek for continuous improvement. At this context, the clinicians use the critical reading of scientific reports as a way of being updated. It is necessary to consider, however, the systematic use of clinically relevant scientific evidences, connecting patient’s oral and medical conditions and history with their needs. During treatment planning development, the clinician must keep in mind the new therapeutical approaches and appropriate use of biomaterials, remembering that not always the most advanced option is the best one. Thus, in addition to clinical experience, a reliable dental practice should be based on scientific evidence.

In this sense, RSBO has been established as an open-access source of dental literature, comprising not only the various specialties but also the integrated knowledge among them. As a result of the editorial board and reviewers’ effort in publishing quality papers, the periodical has been indexed at several databases. Indexing is important because it enables the access to RSBO’s content by an increasingly number of professionals performing an internet search, consequently making the wanted information easily to be obtained. Enjoy your reading.
